YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Armenia's total public debt at the end of July 2020 stood at $7.939, 525 billion, an increase of $220.682 million from the previous month, the National Statistical Committee (NSC) said today.

Since the beginning of the year, the total public debt has grown by $618,269 million. According to the NSS, the external public debt at the end of July 2020 amounted to $6.055, 237 billion, an increase of $73.591 million from the previous month.

About $5.576.651 billion of the external debt were owed by the Armenian government (an increase of $70.015 million), and $478,586 million were owed by the Central Bank (an increase of $3,576 million).

Armenia's domestic debt at the end of July amounted to the equivalent of $1.884.288 billion, an increase of $147.092 million. About $1.742.302 billion were owed to resident holders of government bonds and $141,986 were owed to holders of foreign currency denominated bonds.

At the end of July, 2020 Armenia's total public debt in the national currency, the dram, increased by 128.061.4 billion to 3.851.940.2 trillion drams.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the ratio of public debt to GDP at the end of 2019 stood at 53.6%.

Citing the coronavirus crisis, Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan stated earlier that Armenia's public debt would grow by 260 billion drams. As a result the budget deficit in 2020 may reach 324 billion drams.

According to the National Statistical Committee, Armenia's total public debt at the end of December 2019 amounted to $7.324.167 billion, having increased by $158.091 million from the previous month. Of the external debt some $5.300.412 billion were owed by the government (an increase of $186.278 million), and $489.317 million were owed by the Central Bank (a decrease of $22.801 million).

Armenia's domestic debt at the end of December 2019 stood at the equivalent of $1.534.439 billion, having decreased by $5.386 million ($1 - 488.57 drams). –0--
