WB to continue assistance to Armenian government - Vice-President for Europe and Central Asia

YEREVAN, September 13. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told today the visiting World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde that his government appreciates Armenia’s partnership with the World Bank, started 30 years ago.

Pashinyan said education, infrastructure, governance and digitalization reforms are the priorities of his government, while the World Bank is one of Armenia's important partners in their successful implementation.

The WB Vice President thanked Pashinyan for his high appreciation and congratulated him on 30 years of mutually beneficial partnership.

Ms. Bjerde referred to the joint programs, which have contributed to the economic progress of Armenia. She noted that the WB is ready to continue to assist the Armenian government in the implementation of the priorities outlined in its action plan.

Pashinyan and Bjerde expressed satisfaction with bilateral partnership and exchanged views on the perspectives of its development. Both sides emphasized cooperation in education, infrastructure, judiciary, digitalization, health, public administration and other areas. The need for programs of institutional capacity building and development of human capital was noted.

The Prime Minister stressed the priority of educational reforms, as the human capital is the most important resource, and education is the basis for the success of any reform.

According to Pashinyan, this vision is the basis of the government's plan. In the context of successful reforms, he also emphasized programs aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, from the judiciary to public administration.

Pashinyan thanked the World Bank and the WB Office in Armenia for the effective partnership and reaffirmed the government's readiness to develop and enrich it with initiatives of mutual interest.

Since Armenia joined the World Bank in 1992 and IDA in 1993, WB's total commitments to Armenia amounted to over $2.5billion. -0-
