Armenia issues commemorative silver coins for 150th anniversary of Gevorkian Theological Seminary

YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. The Central Bank of Armenia has released a commemorative silver coin marking the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary at the Holy See of Etchmiadzin.

The seminary was established on September 28, 1874 by Catholicos Gevork IV of Constantinople.

The seminary has historically hosted renowned educators such as Manuk Abeghyan, Hrachya Acharian, Leo (Arakel Babakhanian), and Archbishop Maghakia Ormanian. Among its distinguished alumni are prominent figures like Komitas, Avetik Isahakyan, and Nikolay Adonts.

The coin, with a face value of 1,000 drams, features the seminary’s logo, an excerpt from its hymn, and the Holy Spirit symbol on the obverse, while the reverse depicts Catholicos Gevork IV and the seminary’s building. The limited edition release includes only 500 coins.
