YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. French-Armenian doctors worked for 2 weeks in School No. 1 of Maralik village and examined more than 300 children, providing them with eyeglasses if necessary.

The charity program uniting French-Armenian doctors is called "Eyeglasses for Armenia".

The children are examined in 3 stages. Computer diagnostics is followed by a more detailed eye examination and at the last stage eyeglasses are selected. A large number of optical lenses and a wide variety of frames were brought from France, so that the children could choose the one they will wear with pleasure.

The partner of the Union of French-Armenian Doctors (UMAF) organization, representing French-Armenian doctors is Acba Bank, cooperation with which has a 7-year history. Every year French-Armenian doctors with the support of the bank implement a program to pay for eye treatment of children in different regions of Armenia.

"There is a lot of astigmatism in Armenia, it is good if astigmatism is prevented at an early stage. Myopia and astigmatism are common in Armenia," says Levon Artinyan, a member of the French Medical Association and co-founder of the program.

Petros Ohanyan, member of the Union of French-Armenian Doctors and co-founder of the program, noted that they always visit villages, not Yerevan, because Yerevan is a big city, the capital, and everything is available there. It is much more difficult for families in the villages.

"That's why we always chose trips to the villages, we always tried to go to different villages, different regions, so that all the children get eyeglasses. Acba Bank is a very important institution for us because it gives us a lot of help as a sponsor. This is a huge help, without the help of Acba Bank we would not be able to work like this and examine that many children," Ohanyan said

In the first phase of the program, French-Armenian doctors trained rural school nurses to pre-screen children with vision problems. They worked with more than 30 nurses to conduct the necessary screenings. The selected children are helped to see the world more clearly and accurately by the doctors who come from France.

More than 500 elderly people also benefited from the program this year and were also provided with eyeglasses.

Acba Bank is controlled by the Central Bank of Armenia.
