Compulsory medical insurance in Armenia will cost up to 200 thousand drams a year - Minister

YEREVAN, November 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian government plans to start introduction of a health insurance system from mid-2024, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan told reporters today.

She said a special state insurance fund will be created for this purpose, and according to government estimates, every working citizen will have to pay 200,000 drams annually for coverage of medical services.

She added that the government will subsidize part of the insurance plan for some categories of citizens.

Avanesyan said the system will be introduced in stages, The concept of the insurance plan was approved by the government in February this year. A relevant  legislation  is to  be discussed at a government session later this year.

As for pensioners, the government will oblige to pay insurance premiums for them from 2025. 

The  health insurance system will cover all types of medical services, except for dentistry and plastic surgery.

According to the plan, joining the system will be voluntary during the next few years, and from 2025 pensioners will be involved in it at the expense of the state. From 2027, the system will become mandatory for all citizens. ($1 - AMD 402.25) --0--.
