YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/.  At the foot of Hatis Mountain, at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level there is the "Haterk Food" apiary. Next to it there is an area of 10 hectares of white sweet clover (Melilotus albus), used by the company to produce honey with unique taste characteristics.

The founder of "Haterk Food" Samvel Mirzakhanyan comes from the village of Haterk in the Martakert region of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Dentist by profession, he has been professionally engaged in beekeeping for 6 years.

Samvel has combined old traditions of beekeeping with modern approaches and has specialized in the production of medicinal honey. Now his company produces 12 types of honey and has bee families in Tavush, Lori, Shirak and Kotayk regions of Armenia.

''Haterk Food's' innovative partner in beekeeping is the Acba Federation, which has believed in its business idea and supports the transfer of the new methodology to other beekeepers.

With the support of partners -Acba Bank and Germany’ Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) - 'Haterk Food' has also been certified as an organic food producer. The honey is now exported to Qatar and soon the company will have official representative offices in the UAE, the U.S. and Europe.

"White sweet clover honey is known for its healing properties, especially for the heart. It contains potassium and reduces the chances of heart attack and stroke, cholesterol levels and blood pressure. It is a new crop in Armenian beekeeping. The white sweet clover honey is in great demand in the international market and can compete with other types of honey. With the support of the Acba Federation, we bought seeds, transported them to Armenia, sowed them and organized the transfer of bee families. We also held a string of trainings for the beekeepers-beneficiaries of Acba Bank, who visited us to see how the white sweet clover is sowed and other nuances of honey production," said Mirzakhanyan.
