Armenia's banks are well capitalized and quite liquid - Central Bank

YEREVAN, December 13. /ARKA/. Armenia's banks are well capitalized and quite liquid, the head of the regulator Martin Galstyan said a press conference on Tuesday.

Noting that the banks have generated quite a lot of profit over the past two years, he said the Central Bank's decision on countercyclical capital buffers (CcyB) is aimed at helping banks withstand shock situations.

"Currently, we have no troubled banks," he added.

On July 25, 2023, the Central Bank decided to leave  the countercyclical capital buffer  unchanged at 1.5%.

There are 18 commercial banks operating in Armenia. Their profit after taxes in the first nine months of 2023 amounted to 214.96 billion drams, increasing by 10.97% compared to the same period last year.

The banks' total assets  amounted to 8.8 trillion drams (4.55% growth compared to the beginning of the year). Lending amounted to AMD 4.7 trillion, having increased by 13.08%, liabilities reached AMD 7.3 trillion (2.90% growth against the beginning of the year), total capital of the banks amounted to AMD 1.5 trillion, having increased by 13.48%.
