YEREVAN, November 8. / ARKA /. Some $12 billion were issued as one-day loans (so-called overnight loans) at NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange in the first nine months of this year, according to Karen Zakarian, deputy director of NASDAQ OMX Armenia.
Speaking at a ceremony for launching a new platform for providing seven-day loans he said the figure represented almost a double rise from 2011 when $7 billion were issued, which he said was 10 times more than the combined turnover of all Baltic stock exchanges. NASDAQ OMX introduced overnight lending in 2010 November. Zakarian said the new financial tool has justified all expectations.
In January 2008, Nordic exchange operator OMX Group acquired 100% of shares of the Armenian Stock Exchange (Armex) and the Central Depository of Armenia (CDA). After the combination of NASDAQ and OMX in February 2008, Armex and CDA have become fully owned by the NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. On January 27, 2009, “Armenian Stock Exchange” ojsc was officially renamed as “NASDAQ OMX Armenia” ojsc. On June 5, 2009, “NASDAQ OMX Armenia” ojsc became the owner of 100% of the shares of the “Central Depository of Armenia”
