YEREVAN, April 24. /ARKA/. The chairman of Armenia’s Central Bank Artur Javadyan has downplayed today fears that the resignation of prime minister Serzh Sargsyan may destabilize the Armenian national currency dram.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Tsitsernakaberd genocide memorial to remember the 1.5 million Armenians killed by the authorities of Turkey during World War 1, Javadyan said any unstable situation in the country leads to financial destabilization, but as for the possible devaluation of the Armenian dram, there are no such threats, especially that the regulator is carrying out all necessary measures.
According to the Central Bank, the USD traded on April 23 at 480.13 drams. The greenback began slightly losing its value against the dram from April 11, when it traded at 483.12 drams. Overall, since the beginning of the year the Armenian currency has shown stability trends versus the US dollar, and all exchange rate fluctuations were within the seasonal limits. -0-
